Buster and Babs Bunny are back with the Small Drawings crew in a revamp produced by Steven Spielberg of the filmmaker and Animation BMThe original 90s series for Max coming this fall.
io9 was in the public for San Diego Comic-Con 2023It is Tiny Toons Looniversity first screening and it was like after school again. I can’t wait for a new generation to experience it, already destined for hilarious and funny memes. Just the theme song update now done by Matthew Janszen hits the nostalgia notes and honors the iconic Bruce Broughton Adventures of Tiny Toons opening. It’s a punchy, eye-catching punch that can’t get out of your head that already sets it apart from the original series.
Check it out here with new lyrics:
We got to watch two new full episodes featuring the Tiny Toons cast we’ll be going back to school with. Babs (Ashleigh Hairston), Buster (Eric Bauza) along with Hamton (David Errigo Jr), Plucky (David Errigo Jr, again) and Sweetie (Tessa Netting) attend Looniversity to learn what it takes to be like Bugs Bunny and the legendary Looney Tunes through silly lessons and chaotic adventures. The show also welcomes back little cartoon adventures alums Jeff Bergman, Bob Bergen, Candi Milo, and Cree Summer, reprising their roles as Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Dean Granny, and Elmyra, respectively. Bergman is also featured voicing Sylvester and Foghorn Leghorn, while Milo brings Witch Hazel to life for a new era (his scenes in what we’ve seen here are wickedly delicious). Fred Tatasciore is also on the mic voicing Taz and Yosemite Sam.
Both Tiny Toons Looniversity the episodes were truly exceptional. My favorite was the one that focuses on Hamton having an identity crisis to go to medical school on deferred admission or stay with his friends – who, because of Toon DNA, are basically invincible and don’t need medical attention until a bad guy steps in with a reversal potion that pours into the Looniversity water source. The genius of this bonkers premise is shockingly executed with gentle but hilarious violence, I assure you no toon was hurt too deeply. I can’t wait for more episodes!
Tiny Toons Looniversity debuts this fall on Cartoon Network and Max.
This piece was written during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023. Without the work of the writers and actors currently on strike, the show discussed here would not exist.
