In a statement, President Biden called out Republicans complaining about his new move to forgive $39 billion in student loans.
The president said in a statement:
I’ve long said college should be a ticket to the middle class — not a burden that weighs on families for decades.
My administration keeps this commitment. Starting today, more than 800,000 student borrowers who have been repaying their loans for 20 years or more will see $39 billion in their loans forgiven as a result of actions taken by my administration to fix past failures. These borrowers will join the millions of people my administration has provided relief over the past two years, resulting in more than $116 billion in loan relief to more than 3 million borrowers under my administration.
But we don’t stop there. My administration has worked hard to secure the largest Pell Grant increases in a decade, fixed broken loan programs such as the Civil Service Loan Forgiveness, and created a new income-driven repayment plan that will reduce cut undergraduate loan repayments in half and bring monthly payments to zero for low-income borrowers. And, when the Supreme Court made the wrong decision, I immediately announced a new plan to open an alternative avenue of relief for as many borrowers as possible, as soon as possible.
Republican lawmakers — who had no problem with the government canceling millions of dollars of their own business loans — tried everything to stop me from helping American workers. Some even object to the actions we announced today, which follow on from helping borrowers promised but never delivered, even when they had been making payments for decades. The hypocrisy is staggering and the contempt for working and middle class families is outrageous.
As long as I am in office, I will continue to work to bring the promise of college to every American.
There’s a reason Biden brought in a record amount of fundraising for his re-election campaign in the second quarter. JPipes that look at popularity or horse racing metrics might miss it, but Joe Biden gets things done for people, and voters have demonstrated throughout his tenure that when Biden and the Democrats deliver, they get rewarded. at the polls.
Biden found a powerful problem with student loans which he used to illustrate the difference in priorities between him and the Republicans.
The GOP complains about anything that helps workers and the middle class.
President Biden knows where his potential voters are and he is doing everything in his power to satisfy them.
