Barkley Defends Bud Light
Barkley was playing a celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, Calif., where a series of viral videos captured at a local bar show the former basketball star launching into a rough Bud Light defense. During his rant, Barkley attacked the millions of Americans who boycotted Bud Light in the weeks after the Mulvaney campaign came out.
“Any rednecks or a-holes that don’t want to drink Bud Light – fk y’all,” Barkley said, according to The New York Post.
Barkley then offered to buy Bud Light for the bar people.
“Hey you can’t undo me,” he said in another video. “I’m not worried about being canceled. If you fire me and give me all this money, I’m going to play golf every fucking day.
Barkley doubled down on that in another video.
“I want you all to drink this fucking beer,” Barkley exclaimed. “I got three cases of Bud Light. If you’re gay, bless you. If you’re trans, bless you. If you have a problem with that, fuck off!

Unfortunately for Barkley, however, it blew up in his face, as his rant only seems to have caused Americans to despise Bud Light even more.
“Time not to buy Bud Light even harder,” one social media user commented, with another adding, “And to say I loved that hole.”
“Fuck you too Charlie,” a third user commented.
Bud Light has lost more than $27 billion in market value since the Mulvaney campaign, with sales plummeting 28.5% for the week ending July 1, slightly worse than the 27.9 drop % compared to the previous week. Industry experts said Bud Light’s campaign with Mulvaney looked like “betrayal” to the brand’s customers.
“Bud Light’s missteps felt like a betrayal to both its liberal and conservative customers, and that trust is going to take months, if not years, to rebuild,” Daniel Korschun, associate professor of marketing at LeBow College, said recently. of Business from Drexel University. said The New York Times.

Mulvaney Ditch Bud Light
Worse still for the brand, the unpopularity of Bud Light seems to have “infected” its sister brands under the umbrella of its parent company Anheuser-Busch. Michelob Ultra sales were down 4.3% in the week ending July 1, while Busch Light sales were down 8.5%, according to Bump Williams’ eponymous consultancy .
“Budweiser trends have been going down for a very long time, but it’s the negative Michelob Ultra numbers and now the negative Busch Light trends that concern me the most,” Williams said. The post office. “They were very healthy before April 1.”
In contrast, Modelo Especial, which dethroned Bud Light as America’s top beer, saw sales rise 11.4% in the week ending July 1.
“The gap between Modelo Especial and Bud Light on an annual basis is narrowing,” Williams explained.

Ultimately, there’s no denying that Bud Light took a hard look at how “go wake up, go broke” is very real. Barkley can defend Bud Light all he wants, but he shouldn’t be surprised if he finds himself on the wrong side of history on this one.
