Special Counsel Jack Smith has presented dozens of witnesses as he specifically investigates Donald Trump’s conduct from the period following Election Day 2020 until 6/1/2021.

NBC News reported:

Federal grand jurors investigating Donald Trump’s attempts to halt the transfer of presidential power after his 2020 election defeat have heard testimony from dozens of witnesses in a sweeping investigation that examined the former president’s conduct extending from before election day until January 1. 6 attack on the United States Capitol, according to an analysis by NBC News.

Smith was tasked with investigating any violations of the law as part of efforts to “interfere with the legal transfer of power following the 2020 presidential election or Electoral College vote certification” on 6 January, “as well as any questions that have arisen or may arise directly from this investigation.

The article points out that Trump’s speech prior to the attack on Capitol Hill may not be accountable as it may fall within the realm of protected speech. However, Trump’s conduct in pressuring state officials to nullify 2020 election results AAnd false election conspiracy could be a prosecutable offence.

Former President Trump has argued that he did nothing wrong, but federal prosecutors would not investigate his conduct yet if they heard from dozens of witnesses that he did nothing wrong.

The big issue for Trump could be any criminal charges related to his plot to nullify the election.

If Jack Smith files charges against Trump over his plot to nullify the election, it will be the blow to protect democracy since Trump entered the political arena.
