MANILA, Philippines — Liano’s Ed Daquioag and Javi Gomez shared primary responsibility in helping Terrafirma retire in the fourth quarter and defeat a depleted San Miguel Beer, 85-72, at the PBA On Tour held Sunday at the Filoil Ecooil Center in San Juan City.
Daquioag and Gomez de Liano combined for 15 points in the payout period as Dyip snapped a three-game slide and moved to 4-6 with one game to spare in the series. exhibition against undefeated Magnolia.
“We made the most of our advantage up front with our big guys and shooters, and they were able to move their feet and play good solid defense,” coach Johnedel Cardel said.
Juami Tiongson scored with 15 points despite going 3-of-10 from three-point range, Daquioag had 13 points, four rebounds and three assists while Liano’s Gomez had nine points and three rebounds for Terrafirma.
De Liano’s basket in the first half of the fourth kept Terrafirma in front before Daquioag started making late shots, spelling the end for a San Miguel side that ended a miserable stint on tour.
Jericho Cruz had 19 points and six rebounds while Rodney Brondial also scored 19 points with 17 rebounds, but the Beermen finished 3-8.
San Miguel won two of its first three games before the absence of June Mar Fajardo, CJ Perez, Chris Ross, Marcio Lassiter, Vic Manuel and then Terrence Romeo and Mo Tautuaa caused a huge downward trend.
The Beermen had only four regulars in Cruz, Brondial, Allyn Bulanadi and new signing Noy Baclao, prompting coach Jorge Gallent to bring in players from the team’s PBA 3×3 squad.
