“The Golden Bachelor”
Variety reported that after “The Golden Bachelor” was officially greenlit, ABC described it as “a whole new kind of love story – one for the golden years”.
The show’s synopsis states that a “hopeless romantic is given a second chance at love in the search for a partner to share the last years of life with.” The women who arrive at the mansion have a lifetime of experience, living through love, loss and laughter, hoping for a spark that ignites a future full of endless possibilities. In the end, will our Golden man turn the page to start a new chapter with the woman of his dreams?
Rob Mills, an unscripted television executive at Disney, previously talked about how exciting the casting process was for this show.
“Some of the casting interviews we had were so touching,” Mills said. “It’s such a different way to do ‘The Bachelor’ because these people are just in a totally different place in their lives.”
“There is an interesting thing about people who have reached the other end of the spectrum, who have lived their lives, they have raised their children, some are widowed or divorced and maybe some have never been in love. “, he continued. . “We thought that would be an interesting dynamic through the ‘Bachelor’ lens.”

The Hollywood Reporter reported that it comes after 28 seasons of young people finding love on “The Bachelor.” Ideas for an older version of the long-running reality show have been circulating for years, with original casting calls for seniors in early 2020 only to be derailed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘The Golden Bachelor’ could be a hit
The show has the potential to be a big hit, as the median age of ABC viewers is 61. YouGov poll which was conducted in 2020 revealed that more than 40% of “The Bachelor” audience is over 55 years old.
It’s worth noting that Hollywood is currently in the midst of a writers’ strike that has left networks scrambling to get unscripted reality TV content. Nearly two decades ago, another writers’ strike led to the greenlight of Donald Trump’s reality show ‘The Apprentice’, according to page 6.

“The Bachelor” has been a huge hit since its premiere in 2002, spawning spin-offs like “The Bachelorette,” “Bachelor in Paradise,” and “Bachelor Pad.” How successful “The Golden Bachelor” will be remains to be seen, but given how many baby boomers are looking for love these days, we wouldn’t be surprised if this show was a huge hit !
